May 19, 2022
This is some text inside of a div block.

If you’re not familiar with the world of dropshipping you may not know be aware of this, but Oberlo has been the number one Shopify dropshipping app for a while now with over 150,000 merchants using it.

So it's only natural that the news of it abruptly shutting down comes as a shock, especially when the company offers little explanation about the reasoning behind that decision.

In this short blog post, we will explore the key information about Oberlo shutting down and how it will impact Shopify's dropshipping businesses moving forward.

Critical information about Oberlo's shutdown on Shopify

This is a quick bullet point list of all the most critical pieces of information that you will need to navigate this upcoming period:

  1. Oberlo shuts down entirely on the 15th of June.
  2. The app has been removed from the app store.
  3. The recommended replacement app by Oberlo is the DSers App.
  4. All user information will be removed after the 15th of June.
  5. Subscriptions paid through Oberlo will be refunded. Those through Shopify will be refunded as app credits.

Now that you have all the critical information, let's dig into more specifics.

Why is Oberlo being shut down?

Oberlo's explanation via their FAQs page is quite vague. Here's what they said in their official statement:

"Shopify's top priority is doing what is in the best interest of merchants. This product deprecation, which is a routine occurrence, is in pursuit of providing merchants with the best solutions to reach their customers wherever they are." - Oberlo

How long can you use Oberlo?

If you're a merchant who has been using Oberlo, you'll still be able to use the Oberlo app until the 15th of June 2022. This means that you will have some time to export all of your data and organize your migration to another app or service.

Tip: Do not forget to export dropshipping lists and create backups because they will be removed after June 15.

What are other Shopify dropshipping alternatives?

As mentioned before, Shopify recommends the using the DSers.

That said, there is a wide array of apps that you can use for dropshipping. However each serves different functions.

Here are 6 of the most used dropshipping apps on Shopify, and you can determine which ones suit your business needs the best or research others.

  1. DSers
  2. Printful
  3. SPOD
  4. CJDropshipping

Benefits of using DSers

One thing to note is that with the DSers app there will be a much simpler migration process as noted on the Oberlo website. Any Oberlo users who migrate to DSers will be able to do so in just a few steps.
